On September 6, ELLE Magazine held their annual Fashion | Next contest, sponsored by Maybelline. 23 designers showcased 3 of their best designs for a chance to win one of the two awards presented.
The students designs featured an array of trends with an artistic twist from colorblock blazers to metallic dresses.
Among some familiar faces at the show were guest judges, fashion innovator Coco Rocha, TV host and fashion journalist Louise Roe, actress Ashley Madekwe, and ELLE’s creative director Joe Zee. The designers seemed to leave a lasting impression on the judges with their bold innovative designs, Ashley Madekwe even tweeted, “so impressed with all the talent at the #ELLEfashionnext
The innovative silhouettes made for stiff competition. Although all the designs were impressive and carefully constructed, it was Caroline Hougen’s chunky knits and pastel palette that won the 2013 ELLE Fashion | Next Design Award. Savannah Cipriano’s transparent cutout designs also won over the judges as she received the Maybelline New York Design Visionary Award.
But the competition is not over yet! Fans can still go online to the Elle website and vote for their favorite designer to win the People’s Choice Award, worth up to $10,000. Voting ends soon so be on the lookout for the winner and for all the talented designers in their up and coming shows.
