JIMMY JEAN-LOUIS the dashingly handsome actor, who starred in a series of Hollywood movies and television shows, is currently filming the movie based on the life of Haitian revolutionary Toussaint Louverture. Now being filmed in France and Martinique, the movie will bring to light the story of the Haitian Revolution of 1791-1803, that transformed the richest colony in the Western Hemisphere into a nation of the first freed Blacks and Mulattos. This is a fascinating story of the leader of the slave revolt.
Toussaint Louverture was a black man, born a slave, who became a slave owner himself, the leader of the slave revolution, who supported King Louis XV1, but whose life ended in a French prison. The movie delves into 18th century colonial Haiti, Louverture’s emergence as a revolutionary and his rise as a free Black man. Not much has been written and exposed about the meteoric trajectory of Louverture, whose African origins, fueled with his bold Catholicism and the Voodoo beliefs were well known.
