MATT BARNES of the Los Angeles Lakers hosted the `Athletes For Cancer’ benefit at the Maserati showroom, downtown New York City. The tall dashing Matt addressed the glitzy guests about his cancer foundation and the loss of his mother to cancer after less than one month of her diagnosis.  In between some really fabulous new cars on dis play, guests ate, drank and danced wearing their holiday fineries. The room seemed to sway to whatever side Matt and his lovely fiancé GLORIA were and swayed back again whenever the beautiful XIMENA NAVARETTE and the equally beautiful CAMIE CRAWFORD were holding court…. of course they are the reigning `Miss Universe’ and `Miss Teen USA’. Also enjoying the festivities were super-hot model/actor TYSON BECKFORD, stylist to the stars ALEXANDER ALLEN, shutterbug JOHNNY NUNEZ, `Miss US Virgin Islands Universe’ JANEISHA JOHN, Laker DEREK FISHER, actor SAMUEL THIAN, MENTRAIL TURMAN, PRICILLA MONTEIRO, MELYSSA FORD, JUNE SCARLETT and BRET LOCKER. ALICE TAN RIDLEY from `America’s Got Talent’ and mother of the movie `Precious’ breakout star Gabrielle Sidibe entertained the crowd with her singing ability. The event raised over $50,000 through a silent auction.


The 20th annual Glamour Women of the Year Awards were handed out at a glitzy affair held at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Glamour Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief CINDI LEIVE played host to an uplifting evening, which has become a hot ticket on the New York social circuit. It was celebrity gridlock everywhere you turned…. OPRAH WINFREY, JULIA ROBERTS, FERGIE and husband JOSH DUHAMEL, DONATELLA VERSACE, HILARY SWANK, STANLEY TUCCI, CHER, KATIE COURIC, KATE HUDSON, KELLY OSBOURNE, DIANE SAWYER, SHERI SHEPARD and CHELSEA CLINTON. One of the more touching speeches was made when actress/pop princess JANET JACKSON presented an award to Italian designer DONATELLA VERSACE, She said: “We share a very close bond. We both lost our brothers, our favorite collaborators. Last summer when I attended my brother’s funeral, we were all dressed in Versace, which means we were dresses in love.”

New York City Mayor MICHAEL BLOOMBERG was on hand and so were heads of States including QUEEN RAINA of Jordan. Four female Heads of States were honored for their achievements: Trinidad & Tobago Prime Minister Hon. KAMLA PERSAD BISSESSAR; Prime Minister of Lithuania DALIA GRYBAUSKAITE; President of Liberia ELLEN JOHNSON SIRLEAF the first elected female President in Africa and The Prime Minister of Croatia JADRANKA KOSOR.  Sports star LISA LESLIE was among the honorees wearing a stunning blue evening gown by designer PAMELA ROWLAND and designer TORY BURCH were also in attendance.

 Three Somalian Doctors who just happen to be a mother and two daughters were honored for their humanitarian work they are doing in their homeland – DR. AMINA MOHAMAD; DR. HAWA ABDI and DR. DEQO MOHAMED.  Singer JANELLE MONAE thrilled the audience with one of her high-energy performances.



The exclusive SoHo restaurant Via Dei Mille was the scene for the 2010 Annual PINK for a Purpose dinner to benefit the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation. This special invite only dinner party and charity fund-raiser event is the brainchild of model/actress LIRIS CROSSE, ZARI GOMEZ of the Matrix Group LLP, and

PRICILLA MONTEIRO of `The Fashion Reporter.’ The function brought out celebrities from the worlds of music, fashion and sports to raise funds for a worthy cause. Celebrities in attendance of this pink themed event wore gowns and accessories provided by event sponsor designer Jovani to raise awareness and raise funds for Breast Cancer Research. Liris opened the evening’s formal proceedings with thanks to the guests in attendance, sharing the concept of the celebration that tied in with the birthday month of the principals as well as breast cancer awareness month. Liris noted that the disease has touched the lives of so many of the esteemed guests in attendance and commended the overwhelming support that has come from others involved in the fight against breast cancer.

 Guests included; AMANDA DIVA host on VH1; BRIANA MARIE of Harlem Heights, who also generously supported the cause with gift bags for all attendees from her new B.Marie handbag collection; MICHAEL KYSER president Atlantic Records; RICH NICE, President IMC along with music veterans MONA SCOTT, JASON RILEY and event sponsor GIUSEPPE TUOSTO owner of Via dei Mille Restaurant.

 Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grass roots network of breast cancer survivors and activists working together to save lives empower people ensure quality care for all and energize science to find a cure. Thanks to events like Pink for a Purpose and generous contributions from partners, sponsors and fellow supporters. The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has become the largest source of man-produced funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.


The Harvey Milk School in Greenwich Village, hosted a gala benefit that raised $1million. The school was created specifically for gays, lesbians and trans-gender kids were the subject for a recent Academy award-winning movie starring JOHNNY DEPP. SUZIE ORMAN, ROBERT VERDI, WENDY WILLIAMS, ADRIANNA HUFFINGTON and BETHANY FRANKEL were among the guests.
