Machel Montano “The Boy With the Magic Drum”

Bold. Rhythmic. Energetic. Infectious. Unpredictable. These words immediately come to mind when one hears the name and music of Machel Montano. It can be said that the development of his musical career parallels that of Soca as we know it today. Year after year he has produced hits and remained the trailblazer of the genre. When listening to his music, people are overcome by an inexplicable desire to move, to surrender their bodies to the beat, and follow his every instruction. Like the protagonist of his own children’s story book, “Boy Boy and the Magic Drum”, Machel uses his musical prowess to intoxicate and mesmerize hordes of fans whether it be in major cities around the globe or at home in Trinidad and Tobago. His unique style and flair for capturing the essence of Trinidad’s carnival culture augmented by dynamic collaborations with other world class acts has propelled the genre well beyond the shores of his native land.
