On January 24, 2013, Rad Hourani presented the first unisex show in fashion history, and in so doing became the first Canadian to enter the inner circle of Parisian haute couture.
This, Rad Hourani will guest curate an event at the Phi Centre that will last the entire month of November. At the request of Phoebe Greenberg, founder and curator of the Phi Centre, Rad Hourani has agreed to go seamless and present an overview of 5 years of unisex fashion.
Rad Hourani will open a pop-up shop at the Phi Centre featuring exclusive objects made in collaboration with architect Gilles Saucier, painters Leela Sun and Renata Morales, musicians Pierre Lapointe and Chris Garneau and several others. Visitors can also procure pieces from the Rad Hourani ready-to-wear collection and pick up the book Rad Hourani 5 Yrs of Unisex, only 300 copies of which are available around the world.
In the room adjacent to the pop-up shop, Rad Hourani’s celebrated interactive jacket from the Tate Modern exhibition will be on display. The jacket, equipped with cameras, will project live images of visitors on all the screens of the Phi Centre.
In the exhibition space, the public can see Rad Hourani: Seamless, a retrospective of Rad Hourani’s 5 years of unisex fashion complete with anatomy drawings, patterns, photography and collections.
In the arthouse cinema, viewers can see a looped 20-minute video installation on Rad Hourani’s world.
Throughout the month of November, Rad Hourani will also give master classes to fashion students on his approach and philosophy. (Date to be confirmed.)
He will also give a conference to the general public where he’ll discuss his approach, the people who influenced him and the experiences that marked him, giving people a chance to ask questions about his work.
The Rad Hourani: Seamless event at the Phi Centre will also be the occasion for two big shows.
On, Pierre Lapointe will take the stage to present a one-of-a-kind concert. Alone at the piano, in the midst of the crowd, he’ll play the most melancholic pieces from his repertoire to a video projection created by Rad Hourani. Chris Garneau will open the show.
On, Jacques Greene will headline the closing concert of the Rad Hourani: Seamless event, wearing none other than Rad Hourani’s infamous interactive jacket. Mekele will get the festivities underway with an opening set. A must-see event to cap off the end of a big month.
